note to myself 2022

[…] maybe it’s the fall (gravity), the tiny particles (seeds), the relation which both these things have with survival […] a need of unease and ease {...] alive yet dead – not duality but multiplicity [...] between the two movements (the cross) - horizontal valence interrupting vertical energy […] a sort of stillness after the fall, with the potential to re-form, everything held yet able to move/reconfigure/mutate, labyrinth of meandering decorative patterns, fleshy breathing, membranes clumped together, pulsating vibration which disintegrates, repetition, process, precarity, fragility, skin full of air - [...]  a place of transition, waiting yet not knowing -  looking for the place that connects above to below, what is inside and outside simultaneously, a […] duality of opposites with no edges, a space in between thoughts and the body - light yet heavy - with gravity […].

Lives and works in Penryn, Cornwall

"...Of the several group and solo exhibitions, three stood out. CMR Projects hosted Leila Galloway’s O-onn-gorse, a room of green hanging forms (gorse, clay, walls lined with green striped paper bags) that tested organic analogies of emotional states of suspension while resembling a low – fi therapy centre with earnest intentions..."

The December 2023 – January 2024 issue of Art Monthly, review of Flamm by writer Martin Holman.

"...“Limbo” exploits symmetrical rigour through its suspended double curved, transparent, perspex structure. Aesthetic intervention disarms this rigour. Green marbles have fallen through the Perspex structure manoeuvring around red, rubber plugs. They scatter on the red floor decorating the space playfully and irreverently in contrast to the stillness of the luminous folds of perspex.

To experience ‘Limbo” is to experience a disabling sensation. It ensnares our curiosity, pulling us into its territory. Once we are there, we are captured and captivated, held in multiplicity of existences, and our multiplicity of responses, all unfashionable and defying an ultimate metaphor or simile. To leave it is total, it carries no sign to be taken away, to be imprinted on our memories. The authority of “Limbo” is to be there with it.

The installation is sensually sculptural. It demands time. Time to walk around it and time to watch it; time to make our physical movement around this work activate its stillness and dissolve its symmetry...".
